GEOFF NOBES HANDICAP RACE.

For those who are not familiar with this annual event its a good event to partake in as the slowest runners stand a good chance of winning the race!

This from John Barker

I'm doing the handicapping for the Geoff Nobes 3 mile handicap race on Wed June 8th and which is 3 laps of the large field behind the Brentwood centre. We currently have about 35 names on the notice board list and would like to get it up to last years standard of 70. The list will be up for another 2 Wednesday’s before being taking down for handicapping.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, the slowest runners go off 1st at varying intervals and the faster the runner the worse the handicap. The idea being that everyone finishes about the same time (which never happens!)I do tend to make the handicap slightly in favour of the slower runner, but in truth, you never know who's going to win the trophy as everybody has a chance.
It would be nice to see a good turn out, as the summer and winter time trials don't exist anymore this is the only Wednesday of the year that the groups are united.
I also understand that the club will be putting on a buffet in the bar upstairs afterwards with hopefully some spot prizes as well.
Last years event was a great success, let's keep the good work up
Thanks John
Ps It clashes with the next Crown to Crown 5k, but the purpose of the last one in May was to help with the handicapping.( Plus there are another 3 in the series after June.)

THIS IS ALSO INTERESTING FROM JOHN

I was looking at the club membership with Steve Birkett last Wednesday and we currently have 268 paid up members and 12 life members equaling 280. There were about 400 members the previous year. Membership was due end of February so everyone who wants to be a Trotter should have renewed their membership by now.
The ballot entry for the 2112 London marathon was at the end of April and the unsuccessful TGT applicants will be asked to put their reject slip into the club draw which normally takes place in December.
Those Trotters who have yet to renew (3 months overdue) should not be allowed into the draw even if they have a London reject slip as they were not members of the club when the application took place.
I hasten to add, that this is my view and not Steve Birkett's or the committees. My wife and I pay our £25 a year membership and so should everyone else who competes for the club or uses club facilities!

WE WANT YOUR OPINION

Paul Price posted this on our site
Fair comment, John. No excuse for not renewing. By the way, we only have 180 members registered to use our website. What are the other 120 doing?

So if you want to comment on this go on to our website and post your thoughts!!

WHATS HAPPENING? Our new website is a font of information yet it seems it is not too well read. It has all you want to know on what is going to happen, what has happened, who has done what ect, how to moan about something within the club you don’t like, how to praise those of you who have triumphed with a pb, and generally an online Footprint! It would be interesting to find out how many of you would prefer to have a fortnightly Footprint, or read the info etc off of the website? If you receive the Footprint by email on your computer do you read it? How many times a week do you look at the new website? Let me know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

And I will include your thoughts in the next Footprint.

DON’T FORGET OUR 10K RACE IS ON THE 17th JULY.

Yes its getting nearer and the committee are working on setting up all the requirements need to deliver another smooth event. We all have tasks to sort behind the scenes, and  are well on the way, including fighting for a road closure this year which will avoid having road works on the course! Look on our board nearer the time to volunteer to help deliver another smoothly organised Essex 10k championship event. It’s a great day to show you want to support your club!

WEAR THE GREEN WITH PRIDE !!
